Ben Kantarovski has signed a new 3-year deal for the Newcastle Jets, which is great news for the club. By the time that contract runs through the lad will have probably attracted interest from overseas and we’ll get a nice transfer fee for him. Brilliant. In the meantime he will help us into our next phase of developing a team which can challenge for the top two spots.
Kantarovski had this to say:
“I’m a homegrown boy and I love playing in front of our home fans, but one of the major reasons I chose to re-sign was that the future looks great for us on and off the field. We are building really well as a team and there is a great feeling around the place.”
“Ben’s a young man with an enormous amount of talent, he’s the captain of the Australian Under-20 team and that just shows how well regarded he is in Australian football.
“This is just his third season of senior football but he’s a very mature player for his age. We are yet to see the best of Ben Kantarovski. I’ve no doubt if he continues to work hard at his game he will develop into a very good all-rounded midfielder.”
So yeah a good re-signing and the first from the Tinkler era. There are a few more players who need to be re-signed, namely Milicevic, Topor-Stanley, Wheelhouse and Abbas, all whose contracts are in their last year. Rooney, Jesic, D’Apuzzo and Petrovski are also out of contract soon, but they’ll need to prove themselves before the end of the season.
The future is starting to look less bleak, but a win on Saturday would make it a lot sunnier.
