A-League Preview

Just a quick look at this weekends fixtures, as well as the Jets game on Wednesday.

Adelaide v. Wellington (Friday)

Wellington are terrible away from home, despite being very impressive this season. Adelaide are in form and sitting pretty at the top of the table and should have too much for the Phoenix. They will welcome back Flores and Leckie, and I’m predicting a fairly large victory.
3-0 to Adelaide

Heart v. Gold Coast (Saturday)

The Gold Coast earned a credible draw against league leaders Adelaide and will be looking to turn their recent solid displays into wins, starting with the away trip to Melbourne. It will be hoped that Miron Bleiberg will start both Djite and Porter together up front. The Heart will be struggling up front, and the weakness in their squad depth may be put to the test, as Sibon misses out through suspension, while Alex Terra is out with a calf problem and Aloisi is a doubt as well. It could open the door for Eli Babalj, who was recently in China with the Young Socceroos.
0-1 Gold Coast

Brisbane v. Melbourne (Saturday)

The Victory look like they are finally clicking into gear this season, and it will be an interesting match between the entertainers of the A-League against the best counter-attacking side. Expect Melbourne to soak up the pressure while attempting to utilise Hernandez’s creativity and their fast-pace attack up front to hit the home side on the break. Brisbane absolutely demolished the Central Coast on Wednesday and will be hoping Reinaldo brings his shooting boots this week, meanwhile Melbourne are likely to keep the same line-up which beat Sydney 3-0 last weekend. Two in-form sides, a tough one to predict..though Melbourne have been unpredictable and the Roar have already played this week.
1-1 Draw

Perth v. Sydney (Sunday)

This is a must win game for both sides, as they are both on a terrible run of results, however more so for Sydney. Perth are still getting acquainted with the new management and can be excused for taking time to adapt, but Lavicka is under real pressure to get that elusive first win. If there is a time for the Sky Blues to get their season started, there won’t be a better chance. Though with Perth wanting to end their horror run of 5 straight losses and the return of a rested Robbie Fowler, it’s a tough call.
0-2 Sydney

Newcastle v. North Queensland (Wednesday)

The Jets are flying. At least off the field. Beckham coming over, Jeffers on trial, a big crowd expected for this midweek game as well as the visit from the Heart on Sunday. People around the city are actually talking about the Jets. It’s amazing, and proves Newcastle can get behind them. This is a must win. It really is. I don’t care that North Queensland play attractive footy, or that Bozza will be helping them out from the sideline for this match. We need a win to convince the town to support the team and I won’t dream of anything else happening…Please? Shit Williams might tear them apart though…
1-0 Newcastle
