News News News

Ok quite a bit of news this week. The Jets have been busy, there was a mid-week A-League game and there was a bit of Champions League on as well. Some general news too, especially surrounding Rooney and Liverpool.

Brisbane Roar v. Central Coast(2-0)

Broich and Franjic got the goals, which were both screamers, and they should have had many more, with Reinaldo in particular wasteful.
How Rostyn Griffiths escaped a red card after a stamp on McKay is beyond me. Although half-hearted he clearly raised his studs to the Roar midfielder, and right in front of the ref as well.
McKay went on to hit the bar shortly after as the Roar completely dominated proceedings. Thomas Broich, the German import who has really impressed but hasn’t scored enough, then produced one of the goals of the season from the left wing. An amazing finish.
If you thought that was goal of the season, then Ivan Franjic’s second half screamer makes you think again. It was an absolute bullet. The celebration was pretty good as well.
Between goals Reinaldo should have had a hat-trick and the game finished 2-0, when he could easily have been 5.
Mustapha Amini, the 17-year-old Young Socceroo, made his A-League debut for the Mariners.
It was also a disappointing crowd of 5,000 for one of the most exciting teams to watch in the A-League.

Big news on the transfer front as well, with Queensland Fury striker Isaka Cernak jumping ship to join Melbourne Victory. He will stay for the remainder of the season at Queensland and then starts a 2-year contract in Victoria. It’s a major blow for the Fury, as they only recruited Cernak in the off-season from Brisbane Roar and have given him the opportunity to showcase his talents. But with the club still being partially financed by the FFA, and therefore having a freeze on extending player contracts, it is understandable that Cernak was looking to secure his future.

Meanwhile Adelaide have had to let go Joseph Keenan and Cameron Watson, however as they were signed on short-term injury contracts, their time is up and Adelaide cannot resign them due to the wage and player limit. Both players have been instrumental in Adelaide’s rise to the top of the table, with Watson playing in all 10 of their matches.

On the coaching front, Perth Glory assistant, Kenny Lowe, has left the club after the departure of old manager Dave Mitchell (who took up a position as director). Branko Culina has also parted ways with long-time assistant Mark Jones, as the club begin their revival under Nathan Tinkler. He will be expected to fill the position in the coming weeks. It is a shame for a man who has been associated with the club for a long time. Apparently there was a difference in coaching styles between the two men.

Onto the Rooney saga and it has been confirmed the out of form striker wants to leave the club. He has claimed that Man Utds lack of ambition to sign the top players has caused him to rethink his alliances.

This is a club which he claimed he wanted to stay at for the rest of his life, right after leaving the club he supported all his life (Everton). He then went on to kiss the Man Utd badge when scoring against them a few years ago. My respect (if I had any for the cunt in the first place) has disappeared. I don’t care why he wants to leave, but he has done it the wrong way and at the wrong time. I don’t like Man Utd and I never will, but if he didn’t want to be at the club he should have asked to leave straight after the World Cup.

As to where he’ll go, Robbie Fowler has laughably suggested he is “very interested” to join Perth Glory if he goes out of contract. Now that is funny. In January, Rooney is able to buy out the remainder of his contract, reportedly 5 million pounds, under the Webster ruling. Many clubs are interested, the only thing I can say is, if he joins Man City…well…he’ll die. Oh, but Arsene doesn’t want him. That is all.

So to the Jets and the big news. Actually I’ll do a separate post for this as there are a couple of events going on.

Also can’t be bothered reviewing Champions League because I have had hectic uni and haven’t even seen the highlights, except for Arsenal v Shahktar Donetsk.

Oh yeah and Liverpool finally got new owners last week or something. I don’t care. Let them rot to the Championship and see how they like it…
