So it’s been pretty busy so far in Australia. Osieck named the Aussie squad to play Paraguay, with 6 A-League players named. Joel Griffiths is rumoured to be a target of the Jets, and Wellington Phoenix have managed to avoid liquidation.
So to the Socceroos and Osieck has named Eugene Galekovic (who had a great game of the weekend), Alex Brosque, Jason Culina, Jade North and Michael Thwaite for his squad to play Paraguay in Sydney on October 9th. Kennedy and Kewell have also returned to the squad after injury prevented a previous call-up.
Meanwhile the Wellington Phoenix are reportedly not in trouble of folding, after the company that owns Phoenix were issued a with a $260,000 debt to new Zealand’s Accidental Compensation Corporation. The fee has been paid and it’s all good apparently. That’s all I know.
Joel Griffiths has admitted he would be keen to join up with the Jets again after it emerged new Chief Executive Ken Edwards was considering bolstering the Newcastle side’s playing staff. The Jets don’t have an Australian marquee, yet could also sign Griffiths on a 10 match guest-stint. Whatever happens it looks like the future is bright and that Tinkler is willing to invest in the Jets if they need it. Whether or not Joel Griffiths arrives is up for debate, but it is pretty obvious we need firepower up front, especially with Bridges out and Shuo failing to find any kind of form. It seems very unlikely that he would be allowed a release however, so the search could continue. Bring back Milton
